Kate Danford
Kate was born and raised in High Point, NC. She attended Elon for two years where she majored in partying before relocating to Wilmington, NC. According to Kate, “I immediately loved living close to the beach and close enough to my grandparents to eat well and do my laundry.” She continued her studies online at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh where she studied art and graphic design. Now, Kate is a manager at The UPS Store by day and painting by night.
The artwork for the letter "S" was inspired by the history of Seabreeze, a beach resort near Carolina Beach open to African Americans that was also owned by African Americans. The Carolina Beach police wouldn't allow black people to drive through the community, so they had to take ferries to get across. From the 1920s-60s, Seabreeze thrived with multiple hotels, "juke joints," and beach cottages.
