Appreciation/Honorable Mentions

We would like to give our heartfelt thanks to the following groups of people for their numerous hours of work and their tireless dedication:

·        All accepted artists and their supporters for spending weeks designing and painting their letters, transporting and installing letters, and donating water, food, tools, and their talent and expertise.

·        Artist groups from DREAMS, GLOW and Rachel Freeman School of Engineering.

·        CFCC Art Department’s Painting I class and professors Abby Spangel Perry and Richard Conn for painting and installing the End Racism Now Sign.

·        The numerous city employees who worked out all of the specifics of the approved proposal and installed lights and security cameras. This includes city council member and city staff from the attorney’s office, Parks and Planning Landscaping, Maintenances, transportation and event offices. Several city employees spent dozens of hours with us on the installation day and were essential in transporting supplies and installing letters into the ground.

·        Lighthouse Films for volunteering, supporting, and filming the experience. The documentary, Eighteen Forward was featured at Cucalorus Film Festival. Lighthouse Films (Brad and Andrea Walker) were the sole sponsors of the art installation and they have continued their support of the message and the art!

·        Photographers Kristen McKeithan and Adrian Santiago for documenting the installation and art opening. Adrian was our webmaster as well.

·        Leila Garriss and John Williamson and their family for their hard volunteer work, helpful signs and structural engineering expertise.

·        Jessie Robertson for formatting the signs’ font and drafting the installation’s design, measurement specifications and instructions.

. Cedric Harrison for lending his name and support on the multiple proposals sent to the City of Wilmington. He has been an important behind the scenes advocate and friend.

·        UNCW Printing for discounting the aluminum signs, Lowes Hardware at Monkey Junction for charging wholesale prices in addition to $200 off, and Valspar for donating two gallons of paint.

·        NHCNAACP, NHC Arts Council, DREAMS, Art in Bloom and the hundreds of people who wrote letters of support.

·        The hundreds of people who emailed us in support and offered funding, artwork and volunteer labor.

·        The thousands of people who supported the street mural proposal on Change.org and also stood by our aluminum art installation.

Gratefully,

Eighteen Forward

Honorable Mentions:

We had several dozen amazing proposals submitted for the End Racism Now Art installation. We love the 19 artists and groups that were selected due to their designs and the match to the letter. But we also admired the proposals that were not selected by some amazing artists. A few of them allowed us to give out their information as an honorable mention since you want to get to know their art too!
